"Childhood grief significantly impacts the mental state of our youth."
The Recharge Project is dedicated to providing support and mentorship to grieving children, and we would not be able to do what we do without you. We are constantly assessing our expansion needs by community involvement and using nationally publicized tools such as CBEM. The Childhood Bereavement Estimation Model (CBEM) approximates rates of U.S. children and youth who will experience the death of a parent or sibling by the time they reach adulthood. In the most recent published document, Georgia's numbers have increase above the national average, with 1:11 youth experiencing the death of a parent or sibling by age 18; and that number merely doubles by age 25. In reviewing this information we are certain these numbers are under reported in communities of color. In raising awareness to the mental health of this particular population, we are truly committed providing safe spaces within the community, meeting families where they are.
